Why a Timer Matters on a Kids' Night Light Meta Description
Share
When your child doesn't like going to bed in complete darkness, the easiest solution is usually to leave some kind of light on. The problem is what happens after they fall asleep. You either leave the light running all night or, like I used to do, you have to remember to go back later and switch it off.
It doesn't sound like a big problem, but when you do it night after night, it starts becoming annoying. That's where I think a timer on a night light is actually useful.
It's Usually the Small Things at Bedtime
A night light is a very simple product. It doesn't need twenty different features to do its job, but the few features it does have should make sense. If you're using one because your child wants some light around bedtime, having it switch itself off later can be much more practical than leaving a hallway light, bedside lamp or another light running.
You set it once and that's it. No remembering later that you left something on, and no going back into the bedroom just to find the switch.
The Timer Does One Job

There's nothing complicated about it. You turn the night light on, set the timer and let it switch itself off automatically afterward. That's really the whole point.
I wouldn't say a timer is something every parent absolutely needs. But if your child likes having a light on at bedtime and you don't want it staying on all night, it solves that specific problem very well. Personally, those are the kinds of features I prefer: simple ones that you actually end up using.
A Few Things I'd Check Before Buying One
If I were looking for a kids night light with a timer, I wouldn't choose one just because it looks cute. The design obviously matters, especially for something going into a child's room, but I'd also check whether the timer is easy to use.
I'd want adjustable brightness rather than one fixed level, rechargeable power so I'm not constantly changing batteries, and controls simple enough that using the light doesn't become another task. For me, that's more useful than having a long list of features I'll probably never use.
Why I Like This Feature on Voala Buddy

This is one of the things I like about the Voala Buddy. It's a small silicone koala night light with adjustable brightness, different color modes, USB-C charging and an automatic timer. Nothing overly complicated.
You can use the light at bedtime, set the timer, and it can switch itself off afterward without you having to go back into the room. Because it's rechargeable, you're also not tied to a wall socket while it's being used.
What Changed for Me as a Parent
Since my daughter got the Voala, she has stopped waking up in the middle of the night and falls asleep much faster. For me and my wife as parents, that has been really wonderful.
A lot of us from my generation did not have toys like this to help us fall asleep without being afraid of some monster under the bed. But times change, technology advances, and products like the Voala Buddy can make nights easier not only for children, but for parents too.
Is the Timer Worth Having?
For me, yes. Not because it's some revolutionary feature, but because it solves a small problem that can happen every night.
If your child wants some light around bedtime, you can give them that without having to remember to switch it off later. Simple product, simple feature, but one that actually makes sense.
